Starting in the late 60’s, Benny was the first mascot ever to roam the sidelines of an NBA game. Arguing calls, sitting on the baskets and jumping through hoops of fire are a thing of the past. However, back when Great Grandpa Benny was working the fans in old Chicago Stadium, the only rule was “just don’t bite anyone”.
Now, Benny is known for his comedic acts, athletic entertainment, and inquisitive personality. Described best as a combination of Charlie Chaplin, Spiderman, and Curious George, Benny has grown to win the NBA Mascot of the Year award three times!
In his 21st season as the Rockets mascot, Clutch the Bear has become one of the most celebrated mascots in sports. With his imaginative skits and mischievous antics, Clutch personifies NBA entertainment at its best. Clutch also enjoys inspiring youth to make future-oriented decisions, and encourages them to eat healthy and stay active!
Houston’s Clutch and can be seen cheering on his team at all Rockets home games. Clutch loves comedy, throwing cakes in an opposing team fan's face, shooting silly string, cheerleading, signing autographs, dancing, giving hugs, and performing on-court skits. Clutch was named the first-ever NBA Mascot of the Year in 2005 and took the award home again in 2013. He was inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2006.
